Maria Maksakova

Maria Maksakova was born in Munich. She is granddaughter of the singer Maria Maksakova and daughter of the actress Lyudmila Maksakova. In 2000 she graduated from the Gnesin Academy of Music studying under Natalia Shpiller and Margarita Milgau, and in 2004 she completed advanced studies there. She trained in Italy under Gianfranco Pastine and Katia Ricciarelli. In 2000 she joined the troupe of the Novaya Opera in Moscow. Since 2003 she has been a guest soloist with the Bolshoi Theatre, and since 2006 she has been in the troupe of the Helicon Opera. Since 2011 she has been a soloist for the Mariinsky Theatre.

In addition to the classic mezzo-soprano roles, her repertoire includes lieder and songs by Schumann, Schubert, Brahms, Richard Strauss, Debussy, Rachmaninov, Tchaikovsky and many other composers. With the pianist Vazha Chachava she has also developed and performed a series of programmes, one of which is among her recordings.

She was the first to perform the part of Princess Charlotte at the world premiere of Rodion Shchedrin’s opera “The Lefthander” at the Mariinsky Theatre in 2013.

She is also a screen actress who has worked with such directors as Nikita Mikhalkov (in “The Barber of Siberia”), Vladimir Zaykin (“Fame”), Dmitry Cherkasov (“The Magnates”), Evgeny Gerasimov (“Savva”), and Olga Subbotina (“Photographer”). She also hosts the TV show “Romantic Songs”.
