Andrey Spekhov graduated from the Mussorgsky Urals State Conservatory where he studied in the class of Nikolai Golyshev. While still a student, he was offered a job with the Ekaterinburg Opera and Ballet Theatre, where he sang major baritone parts including Escamillo in “Carmen”, Valentin in “Faust”, Don Carlos and Ferdinand in “Betrothal in Monastery”, Alfio in “Cavalleria rusticana”, and Tonio in “I pagliacci”. He has won prizes in international competitions.

In 1993 he started signing at Novaya Opera where his repertoire included the roles of Talbot in “Maria Stuarda”, Don Carlos in “La forza del destino”, Ruslan in “Ruslan and Lyudmila”, Francesco Foscari “I due Foscari”), the title role in “The Demon”, Gellner in “La Wally”, and the title role in “Eugene Onegin”.

Since 2000 he has been a soloist with the Mariinsky Theatre.

With the Mariinsky troupe he has toured in Germany. He has also been on tours to France, the USA, and Yugoslavia. Since 1996 he has been working with the Bolshoi Theatre. He has sung with the Osipov Russian Folk Orchestra, the Russian Radio and TV Symphony Orchestra under Alexander Mikhailov, and the Russian National Orchestra under Mikhail Pletnev.

He was the first to perform the part of the English Skipper’s Mate in the world premiere of Rodion Shchedrin’s “The Lefthander” at the Mariinsky Theatre in 2013.
